Julie's Wedding

How we met
Dave and I met in 1994 during our first year of college at Oregon State University. We were best friends for about a year and a half and then a misunderstanding left us apart for the next 13 years. Looking back I just wasn’t ready for a serious relationship. After we reunited, I found out that Dave knew back then that I was the one he was going to marry. We both struggled through out the years wondering why we couldn’t find that right person.

How we got back in touch
One night I found a letter that I had written to Dave shortly after our misunderstanding. I spent all night with that letter wondering what I should do with it trying to stop the flood of emotions from coming. Should I read it, send it? But, in the end I thought this is ridiculous…it has been over a decade. We aren’t going to get back in touch, so why care so much. Just recycle the letter. So, I did. At the same time of my dwelling, little did I know that Dave was nervously sitting in front of a friend’s computer composing an email to me. When I received his note, I couldn’t believe it.

When we got back in touch 2 years ago things were complicated and we had a lot to talk about. We both realized that we had different ideas and hurt from what happened back all of those years ago. I really thought he was an amazing person and always talked, wrote, and thought about him through out the years. We lived in the same areas quite a bit of the time and he looked me up a few times, but it was hard without cell phones and email.

Our second meeting
Dave is in the military and was stationed in Hawaii at the time we reconnected. I was living in Portland, Oregon and working as a teacher’s assistant. We wrote emails and talked on the phone for about a year before we finally saw each other. It was a hard time being apart for all of that time, but we became official boyfriend/girlfriend status after not having seen each other for 14 years.

When we saw each other for the first time we were both very nervous. Dave pulled up in his car, jumped out to give me a hug, and forgot to put the car in park. So, as it is rolling backwards I tried to grab the car door and I say to Dave “your car is rolling backwards”. It took him a while to process it as we were lost in the moment, but eventually went running after the car. I saw him three more times and on the last meeting up, we got engaged.

Now
We were married on Oahu, HI on December 8, 08. Finally! ;) Our wedding was perfect and the best day of our lives. It all went by so quickly. Destination weddings are hard to plan, but fun and we ended up honeymooning on Oahu as well. The most important thing about my wedding was the photography and I loved the old Hollywood glam look. So, the birdcage veil worked out beautifully. Thanks Dorene!!!
Dave and I live in Hanford, CA, a nearby town next to where Dave is stationed for the next two years or so.
