Kathy's wedding

Kathy and Daniel

Daniel and I got married in a park in Northern California in early October. We wanted our wedding to be warm, fun and environmentally friendly (without
being obviously so!).  Weddings are such big events, and the wedding industry so huge, I wanted to be thoughtful in my actions, supporting small businesses
and making greener choices.  With marriage comes(often) children, and I couldn't help but think about the future of the planet for this reason too.

I bought my dress from  a recent bride on Craigslist. It fit me perfectly and was the first dress I tried on. (I only tried one other!) The pearl choker I got at a sale at the hospital where I work. The fake fur collar is borrowed off one of my winter coats. The vintage purse is my mom's. (Her maiden name is Blue so it's also my something blue!)

And the veil - my something new - well, the veil is from Dorene! I knew I loved birdcage veils and thought it would work perfectly with my dress. I sent her a spare flower from my dress and she incorporated that onto the comb. I also knew I wanted a smaller veil and for it to be angled across one eye. Furthermore, while I loved the big theatrical feathers on other people, I worried I might feel over the top with them, so we went for shorter feathers. Dorene was very patient and thorough in answering all my questions before I placed my order.

I ended up wearing my veil at a slightly more relaxed angle than I originally envisioned, but I wanted to wear the veil through the ceremony and the reception
and this softer angle meant my 'covered' eye didn't feel the veil at all.

I found gorgeous recycled/tree free invitations from invitesite.com and used left over stationery for table name cards.  We used a caterer annwalkercatering.com)
that uses local, organic/sustainable food.

I did have a bouquet but rather than floral centerpieces, I made centerpieces from succulents and fruit.  This is cost effective as well as ecofriendly! The succulents are now growing on our roof garden.

A good friend made our carrot cake.

Our photographer was Lydia Daniller (lydiadaniller.com). She was awesome and if we do have kids, I'm definitely going to ask her to take pics of them!
